A Wild Ride
A shark confined to a fish tank will grow only eight inches, but in the ocean it can reach eight feet or more. A creature can never outgrow its environment.
The same is true for us. When we limit our surroundings, we limit our growth. But when our environment expands, our thoughts, faith, and experiences flourish beyond imagination. As Ephesians 3:20 reminds us: “God can do more than we could ever ask for or imagine.”
One powerful way to expand our environment is through travel. Stepping outside routine forces our brains to awaken—adapting, problem-solving, and embracing uncertainty. These skills return with us, transforming daily life. Personally, each new journey has made me more confident and less anxious about exploring the unknown.
Bangkok, Thailand
Bangkok was loud, hot, and delicious. After the refined order of Japan, its chaotic energy felt like a shock to my system—94 degrees with 70% humidity didn’t help! Yet the people were kind, and the food was unforgettable. I surprised myself by eating street food daily and was not disappointed. Sweet tropical fruits and fresh coconut water were also my staples.
I even rode a motorbike Grab (their version of Uber). After a long day in the heat, I needed to get back quickly, so I hopped on. My driver skillfully wove through traffic, cutting the travel time in half—though it gave my heart quite a workout!
And after years of giving Thai massages, I finally received one in its birthplace. Massage isn’t just physical relief; human touch releases oxytocin, easing stress, lifting mood, and strengthening the immune system. For anyone living alone, I can’t recommend regular massages enough as part of routine self-care.
Hoi An, Vietnam
Hoi An offered a glimpse of country life—endless rice paddies perfumed with jasmine and locals whose only wish was to see me happy. I felt cared for in a way I’d never experienced from strangers.
I indulged in massages and hair treatments, floated through coconut groves on a lively boat ride, danced on a platform in the middle of a lake, and ended the evening with red snapper ceviche followed by a lantern-lit gondola ride. It was pure magic.
Da Nang, Vietnam
Da Nang was a vibrant city with a bustling beach scene and endless fresh seafood. At night, the Dragon Bridge dazzled with fire and water displays. While Ba Na Hills theme park transported me across continents with replicas of France, Thailand, Germany, and Japan all of which were only accessible by cable car. It was definitely the highlight as it took me up seven kilometers to 1,487 meters above sea level - literally above the clouds which made me feel both small and limitless at once.
I’m heading to Saigon today to meet up with my retreaters and familiar faces will be a welcome sight!
Thank you for coming along on my adventure....until we meet again virtually or in person at my next retreat in Budapest Hungary........Check it out Here.
All my love,
